Jewelry Boxes
Most people think of jewelry boxes as feminine, decorative storage containers that many women would
want to own. But there are also jewelry boxes that are designed in a more masculine fashion and are
intended for use by men. There are even jewelry boxes that are designed with children in mind.

Personal ornaments, such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, hairpins, earrings, brooches and the like, are collectively referred to as jewelry (spelled "Jewellery" in the British Commonwealth). Most jewelry, by its nature, is small in size and could easily be lost if not stored in a special box or other dedicated space. Some jewelry, such as thin gold chains or bracelets, can be damaged if not safely stored. Usually made with small pull-out drawers that have been lined with padded velvet, suede or soft felt, jewelry boxes are specifically designed to provide safe storage for delicate or valuable pieces of jewelry. And if a person gets in the habit of immediately placing all jewelry into a jewelry box once the jewelry has been taken off, the chances of a lost piece are drastically reduced.
Jewelry boxes can be made out of just about any material known to man, and accordingly, they can be very expensive or very inexpensive. The list of possible materials includes precious metals such as gold, sterling silver and platinum, base metals such as silver plate, vermeil, brass, bronze or pewter, wood, glass, bone, leather, ivory and more. They can be finely and elaborately engraved or carved, or they can be decorated with insets or inlays of precious or semi-precious gemstones such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies topaz, or opals. Alternatively, they can be elegantly simple, with clean, flowing, undecorated lines.
Just about every jewelry box has padded, compartmentalized pull-out drawers, and many have special ring rolls and long, undivided drawers for larger items such as necklaces, watches and bracelets. Many jewelry boxes use a lock and key for security, and many use decorative drawer pulls.
Some jewelry boxes, such as those made of gold, silver or wood, can be personalized. Personalization usually consists of a person's name or initials that have been engraved or carved into the surface of the jewelry box lid.
Jewelry boxes serve the very useful and important purpose of keeping a person's jewelry safe from damage or loss. But they can also be decorative additions for the bedroom. They can be finely crafted to look like miniature, ornate pieces of antique furniture, or they can have highly polished finishes with simple lines.
But no matter how it's designed, there is a jewelry box that would be perfect for just about anyone, and just
about any home decor.
