Collectible Memorabilia
One of the fundamental characteristics of mankind is the urge to
surround ourselves with objects that, for various reasons, appeal to us.
And without a doubt, at least some of the things that interest you are
different from those that appeal to your brother or to your next door neighbour.
These differing interests form the foundation of the old axiom that "one man's
trash is another man's treasure." But something, somewhere interests every one of us.
Items that relate to or touch upon a topic of interest to a person are sometimes known as "collectibles" or "collectible memorabilia". Pieces of collectible memorabilia are highly sought after by collectors simply because they relate to a favourite subject or theme. Collectors are willing to pay money - sometimes a lot of money - for these items in order to add them to their collections.
Sometimes the terms "collectible memorabilia," "collectibles" and "memorabilia" are used interchangeably, as they signify the same general concept. They are all items that, for a number of different reasons, are desirable to collectors and are able to be found, inherited or purchased in order to be accumulated into large or small collections. But to be precise, collectible memorabilia, and memorabilia in general, are items that relate to specific historical events, entertainment such as sports, movies, television, stage plays or opera, or specific individuals or groups of individuals.

The term "collectibles" certainly include those types of items, but it is a much more inclusive term that also includes additional types of items such as old coins, vintage stamps, old currency, figurines, artwork, china and many other things that do not relate to any historical event, person, sport or other type of entertainment.
There are thousands of possible subjects and themes for collectible memorabilia.
The only limit is the collector's imagination.
A collection of basketball memorabilia can include many different types of items, or it can be limited to something specific, such as autographed jerseys. As with any type of collection, the choice of what to
include in a basketball memorabilia collection is up to each individual collector.
A wide-ranging basketball memorabilia collection could include the following types of items relating to a
specific team or, in some cases, a specific athlete or coach: signed or unsigned jerseys, team or championship caps (whether actually worn by a player or not), signed or unsigned basketballs (especially game balls), basketball trading cards (especially rookie cards and autographed cards), basketball nets that have been cut down from the hoop following a playoff or championship game, photographs or autographs
of the team, coach or player,
oil paintings, watercolor paintings or prints and posters featuring the team or one of its members, beer bottles, beer cans or cereal boxes featuring the team or one of its members, car mats, throw blankets, waste baskets, coffee mugs, cold drink containers and stadium chairs or pads featuring the team logo, jewelry such as cufflinks or tie pins with the team's logo, magazine covers that feature the team or one of the players, team banners and pennants, game or playoff programs, "bobblehead" figurines of a player, and clocks and watches featuring the team's logo and colors.
If a collector wants a more specific collection of basketball memorabilia that is limited to only one type of item, many different choices are possible. For example, he or she might choose to collect as many different autographed photographs of an individual player as is possible. Or he or she might choose to collect different types of objects, but they all must feature the team's logo and colors. Or perhaps the collector will choose to include at least one cap from each of the National Basketball League teams.
As with memorabilia of any other type, some basketball memorabilia is worth hundreds of dollars or more,
but other pieces are very inexpensive and easy to find. Basketball is an exciting, very athletic, fast-paced sport. A game is over very quickly and when it is, the teams and fans go home. But for a basketball memorabilia collector, the "game" is never over, and a favourite team or player will always play another day.
